Creating your ideal writing space

Image
Creating your ideal writing space Forget the notion of a flawless writing space, what matters is the space that allows you to open your creative mind and affords you a place to write without interruptions.   Instead of fantasizing about the perfect setup, why not bring it to life? Transform your current space into a motivational haven where you can unleash your creativity. It's all about making your writing space where you can feel you can create your next work of art without the daily interruptions by family or friends. Encouraging a Positive Writing Environment Setting aside a designated writing area can be helpful. By creating a space specifically for writing, you can train your brain to associate that area with productivity. Just like how you might avoid certain foods after getting sick from them, your brain can link your writing space with feelings of creativity and accomplishing goals. When you enter your writing space, try to cultivate a positive mindset. Remind ...

The Writing Process

Image
Many have asked me over the years how do I write a book or movie script? My response is always the same, the movie script comes first then the book is written. However, it's not always that simple. You have to have a story idea and a picture in your mind as to who your main characters will be and the location for the story idea. If research has to be conducted, then it's off to the library or many hours on the internet researhing history, a location, or a city to ensure I can describe it correctly and accurately. Once I have my research done and my story concept locked down it's easier to begin the concept of writing the story down on paper. But that's not the reality of writing a book or script, there are other steps that must be taken before I can sit down and begin writing. Here is what has to happen before you can even think about writing a book or movie script, first you have to have an idea for a story.  You must come up with a story concept . Ask yourself will y...

You can edit your story like a Publisher!

Image
You can edit your story like a Publisher!   Although every publisher believes that every writer needs a good editor, that’s not really true, if you can write a book, you can learn to edit your own work before it is published.   Why do you need to edit your work once you’ve finished writing your best work? The reason why you need to do editing of your work is because you want your readers to be able to comprehend what your story is all about and want to promote your work to their friends.   So you’ve written a novel and now it’s time to begin the editing process. Fist off be sure to run your manuscript through your spell check to ensure everything is spelt correctly. Secondly be sure to find all the word “That” and delete them all. Third print off your manuscript and make sure it’s double spaced with 1- 1 ½ inch boarders so you can make notes accordingly. When I edit one of my finished manuscripts, I punch holes in the copy so I can place it into a three-ring bi...

Get the story out of your head

Image
Get the story out of your head One of the great things about having a creative mentor is they don’t hold any punches and tell you like it is no matter how it makes you feel. I have just one of those types of mentors. Don’t get me wrong he doesn’t tell me anything that is going to hurt my feels, but he does raise my awareness by giving me critical feedback that if you look at it the wrong way, you might think he is being seriously harsh. But as writers and creative individuals we need that type of slap upside the head at times, right? During one of his check up calls as he called them, he asked me how much writing I achieved for the book I was working on called “Last Wish”. My response was simple, I’m still on the first page, I’m stuck on all this grammar and editing as I go. He was not only frustrated with my response he hung up on me. I was like damn I pissed him off. Two hours later my phone rang and he apologized for the dropped call. His cell phone died and he had to full...

Whether it be creating an outline, creating characters, or starting that script and what type of software I use to do all these things.  Hope you will join me.    Author Elizabeth Kilbride is a former political operative, author, scriptwriter, historian, journalist. business professional, and creative artist, and life coach consultant.
